Lay Lectors

In the absence of Instituted Lectors, those in this ministry proclaim the Word of God at Mass and other liturgies. These individuals read aloud the first and second readings and may also lead the General Intercessions (or Prayer of the Faithful) when a Deacon is not present.

In order for an individual to become a Lector at the Cathedral-Basilica, he or she must be recommended by a fellow parishioner. The individual desiring to be a Lector must possess the desire to proclaim the Word of God through a spirit of prayer and utmost confidence. Lectors are also tasked to read Parish Announcements as well as lead various prayers on different occasions.
