When the need arises, that is, when there are a great number of communicants in attendance at Mass and few clergy are present, those in this ministry assist in the distribution of the Body and or Blood of Christ.Extra-Ordinary Ministers of the Eucharist should be mature in their faith and be known to other parishioners as exemplary Catholics.
In order for an individual to become an Extra-Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist at the Cathedral-Basilica, he or she must have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Candidates should express their interest to the Rector and, upon approval, must be willing to undergo the training and preparation before being commissioned by the Pastor or his designee.
